A Sick New Year

And I don't mean the good kind of sick. I started feeling bad on Tuesday, and by Wednesday morning I felt miserable so I stayed home from work. I spent half the day sleeping, and the other half watching House with James. We celebrated the new year by staying awake until midnight on our little pallet in front of the fire place.

I felt a little better on the first and started my massive closet purge (more on that later!) but I overworked myself and felt miserable again by the end of the day. I dragged myself to work Friday morning because my job is the busiest the first 5 to 10 days of the month, especially at the start of the new year. I made it until noon before heading back home to crash. And that's what I've been doing. Sleeping and taking medicine and watching House and Doctor Who. Yesterday I did manage to get the house cleaned up a bit, but my closet purge isn't quite finished. I might have clothes scattered and stacked up all over our bedroom and living room....

Ok, I definitely do! But I've been having to do little bursts of work followed by rest. I'm not sure what I had, it could've been the flu but I waited too long to start Tamiflu if it was. I'm still not 100%, but I'm getting better. I even went to see the Book of Mormon last night! I didn't really want to, staying in bed sounded much better. But I'm glad I went. It was an interesting musical. I laughed a lot while also fearing that lightning might strike. It definitely isn't for kids (lots and lots of adult-only content).

So that's been my 2015 so far. A sick new year. But it's a new day Scarlett and I'm ready to really get the new year started off right. The husband and I may even go out to dinner tonight since our big new year's dinner consisted of ordering pizza so neither of us had to cook or leave the house to go pick dinner up. Or we may go crazy and make ourselves go to Walmart to buy groceries. We've only been putting that off for a week or longer...

Either way, happy Monday y'all!

2015: Let's Do This!

You guys! It’s 2015! Can you believe it? We are now just as close to 2030 as we are 2000, how crazy is that? (I’m talking year wise, not day-minute-hour. So if you’re wanting to go all Sheldon on me, go ahead but I’m thinking broadly here, ok?)

On Monday I asked if you do resolutions or not. I heard from a few people and the verdict was decidedly mixed. Some people are all about the resolutions. Some people only like choosing one word. And some of you don’t do anything at all.

I’ve been mulling it over for quite awhile, and I’ve come up with a plan for 2015. My overall goal for the year is to create a well-designed life. What do I mean by that? I mean that I want to make decisions that will lead me to a goal. I want to spend my time more carefully. I want to eliminate some of the clutter that is overtaking my life. I want to discover my style, my passion, my joie de vivre. I want to end 2015 in a different place that I started, and I want to be mindful of that goal all year long.

So with the idea of creating well-designed life, I've actually set five separate goals for the year. I won't be sharing the exact goals here, but they cover various aspects of life. Career, financial, health, family, that kind of thing. I've got some big plans, and I want to make sure 2015 is the year I see them come to fruition! Or at least make progress towards them.

However, I am allowing myself to make one resolution...and I'll tell you all about it tomorrow!

Resolutions or Not?

Hello again, dear friends. I hope you had a fantastic holiday! I can't believe Christmas has already come and gone, but I really can't believe 2015 is almost here. Where has the year gone? I couldn't tell you. But I do know that I'm excited for 2015! I've got a lot to do before it arrives. Put away all the wonderful gifts I got over the past few days for starters. I had some major "you know you're a grownup when..." moments this year though. Between the fire proof safe, the KitchenAid stand mixer, towels, mugs, cookbooks, and fancy new hangers I was a very happy adult. I'll be putting all of those to good use in the new year!

I also have some more planning to do. I'm super excited about finally getting to use my new Day Designer. This is my second year using a Day Designer and I love it! This year's is so pretty :)

And I'm trying to decide if I want to set any new year's resolutions this year. Some years I do, but if I'm honest, the resolutions rarely make it through the year. I've chosen one word to live by the past few years, and that's worked better. I have a couple of days left to decide what I'm going to do. Any suggestions? What do you do, resolutions or a single word? Or nothing at all?
