What I'm Into: August 2014
It's Labor Day, y'all. I'm enjoying the final gasp of summer today, but thought I'd check in with Leigh again for the monthly What I'm Into Link up! Let's go.
On My Bookshelf: For full details on some of these books, check out my August Twitterature post. The rest will be featured in September's Twitterature post :) But overall in August I read The Virgin's Lover, Eleanor & Park, Landline, The Other Queen, Mr Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore, Outlander, and the Lady of the Rivers. I'm also working on the Interestings, Attachments, and the Heart of the Matter. On deck is the follow up to Outlander, Dragonfly in Amber, as well as the Red Queen and the White Queen.
On My TV: We are still working through LOST. James is in EMT class right now, so we don't have much time to watch together, but we have finally finished season one! I'm also gearing up to start watching the episodes of Outlander I've DVRed (new on Starz) and I may finally give in to much prodding and watch Veronica Mars! I'm looking forward to the return of some of our favorite shows this month, like Chicago Fire (my husband's choice, obviously), the Big Bang Theory, and Modern Family. I'm also looking forward to Marry Me on NBC, but I don't think it debuts until October. Above all that, I'm just glad we're starting to see football on TV again!
I also actually watched a couple movies recently. James and I rented Divergent. I honestly wasn't really a fan of the movie. I didn't love the books either, but they were definitely better than the movie. Of course, I could just be burning out on all these dystopian stories. The day before watching Divergent, I watched the Giver with my family. Somehow I'd made it almost 29 years on this Earth without reading the book, so I had no idea what it was about. I've heard if you are a lover of the book you'll hate the movie, but since I had no expectations coming in I really liked it.
On Me: I gave Stitch Fix another go this month, and it was a failure. Out of the three dresses and two tops they sent, I liked one, but it was $88 and I am not an $88 for one shirt kinda girl. So it all went back and I cancelled further Fixes. I know some people love it, but it just isn't for me. However, I did pony up some cash for new nude heels this month, and I picked up a few things from Jen of Jen Loves Kev fame. The dress I bought is a smidge big and ended up being more orange than red, but I still like it! The sweater is good quality and will become a staple in my wardrobe. I don't have photos of the other two items; one is a skirt that is gorgeous (the hook and eye has already fallen off though) and the other is a pair of camo shorts. Oh, and I picked up a new pair of nude heels this month! I haven't been able to wear them yet because my ankle is just now letting me get back into heels :( And I also gave in and ordered some new workout clothes, as well as some skirts and dresses on sale at Old Navy. I'll share details about those next month!
In My Ears: I listened to Mike Birbiglia's comedy albums this month (thanks for the recommendation, Ashley!) and loved them! Plus it was so timely for me to learn about him, because it turns out he is in the Fault in Our Stars. I was able to recognize his voice when I saw the preview, anyway. Of course we can't talk about music this month without talking about Taylor Swift. Her stuff has always been pretty poppy, but I guess she will be releasing her first official pop album soon. Not sure if I will buy it, but if it is on Spotify I will be all over it! I'm looking forward to Blake Shelton's new album next month, because I gotta support a fellow AHS graduate, right? Plus the album cover art features our mutual hometown's water tower!
In My Belly:
I can't get enough of Eischen's! It's only a 15 or 20 minute drive from our house, so about once a month we will head over there after work for the most amazing fried chicken. I also went to my favorite sushi restaurant, Tokyo Sushi, with a friend this month. I spent way more than I anticipated, but it is literally the best sushi in the city! At home, I learned to make chicken fried rice which will come in handy, as I'm trying to get better about bringing my lunch to work.
Important Stuff:
It was a bit of a rough month. At the office we are gearing up for our busiest part of the year, and at home we're adjusting to James being gone multiple nights a week for his EMT class. It also seemed to be a busy month for the fire department, or at least the calls primarily happened in the evening, meaning I ate dinner alone most nights! Not to mention my sprained ankle, Winchester's leap of faith out of the moving truck, and really long commutes.
But hey, it's September now! It's time for the weather to cool down, for football season to heat up, and for the winter boots to start making their appearances. And there's a lot of exciting things going on this month. I'm going to my 10 year high school reunion(!!), challenging myself to go exercise regularly (yoga at least twice a week, for starters), and the Aziz Ansari comedy show (we have seats in the third row!) Speaking of Aziz, I shared the photo for his show on Instagram and he actually commented on it. He called me Robin, but hey, understandable since my IG handle is mrsrobbinssparkles, right?
Anyway, happy September everyone! Let's make it a good one.
